I Am An Instrument: Fuzzy Hell/Ewa Gigon/ɗʉɭʈ

  • Drop Dead Twice 19 Francis Street Dublin 8, County Dublin, D08 EK06 Ireland (map)

The snow got in the way of the first one, so we're back with a new line up and a bigger venue! This is the first of a new experimental/outsider night I'm trying to get going. The idea is to provide a space for the more off-kilter side of performance, music, art and cinema. Come along and bring friends!

A special screening of a mystery film by Michael Higgins ofExperimental Film Society. Not to be missed.

-- Fuzzy Hell --

A mysterious being who lives in the middle of Ireland, who seems to have appeared out of nowhere as a gift to us. "I’m not sure of the identity of the woman who travels under the name of Fuzzy Hell, nor of where she parks her guitar: the information which I can pick up suggests Long Island beginnings but a possible self-chosen, on/off exile in rural Ireland. All I can go on are the songs, which are wonderful. Sharply observant, witty, detached and sometimes sad; their spare, precise fingerpicking seasoned with sonic reversals, sound-aura or tape warble, their tone lies somewhere between Liz Phair and Dorothy Parker, dipping into classical legend, contemporary barlife and timeless personal complications with an equal and universal aplomb and without floundering self-indulgence. The kind of bird-bright-eyed songwriter whom you’d yearn to meet, but would be terrified of making a fool of yourself in front of." - Dann Chinn, Misfit City

-- Ewa Gigon --

A polish singer, composer and multi-instrumentalist. Present on independent scene since 2004, among others, she made appearance on Ballroom of Romance, Magical Girl, Ruby Sessions, Spirit of Voice, Beyond the Bookshelf and Lady Fest Berlin. "Her ethereal vocal styling simmer with tense emotion (...) bringing us into a world of delicate dreams and abandon" (E. Sheehy) Ewa's performances vary each time and may incorporate vocals, live looping, synth, piano, saxophone and everyday things, all used to build up unique harmony or cacophony of sounds and creating a well planned musical picture. On other occasions she collaborated with Conor Murray on drums and Darragh O'Kelly on second keyboard, straying from the usual free jazz path towards more intimate, darker soundscapes.

-- ɗʉɭʈ --

A solo female audio/visual/performance project meditating on dark mysticism, medievalism and the macabre. Inspired by Irish mythology, old ritual and nature it draws its energy from the inherent esoteric elements in all that is ancient and wild, sacred and savage.
